A minimal 1200mm-wide writing desk with a 600mm-deep top, two side panels acting as legs, a back modesty panel for cable management, and two drawers in the bay. Sized for a laptop and an external monitor, with enough surface for paper work without becoming a piece of furniture you regret moving house with.

Cut the top first and use it as a reference for marking everything else. The drawers are simple butt-joined boxes with a plywood bottom captured in a rabbet — no dovetails needed. Use side-mount drawer slides (cheap, easy to install) or undermount slides if you want to spend more for a hidden look. Add felt pads under the legs.
